Mary Frances Simpson

Mary Frances Simpson was born in Burnsville, Alabama on August 11, 1939, to the late T.P. Webster and Mary Frances Webster. Her mother called her “Sister” because she was named after her. She is lovingly known as “Sister” to her family today. Her parents moved to Birmingham Alabama in 1941. Mary confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Temple Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended A.H. Parker High School in Birmingham. In 1955 she met Leroy Simpson Sr. They married in 1958 and moved to Dayton, Ohio where they raised their 3 sons.

Mary joined Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 1973. She was a proud member participating in many initiatives and served as a member of the choir in her early years and on the usher board.

Mary attended Sinclair Community College where she studied nursing. She left school early to help care for her granddaughter. Mary enjoyed caring for people. She worked at several nursing homes and group homes throughout the Dayton area. After she retired, she continued to care for others through volunteer programs. She worked as a Senior Companion through Lutheran Social Services for several years. She also worked as a Foster Grandparent through Dayton Public Schools until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her 2 sons, Leroy Simpson Jr. and Michael Simpson; 1 brother, Tepie Webster; 2 sisters, Fannie Green and Martha Holmes.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Clyde (Donna) Simpson Sr. of Jacksonville, NC; grandson, Clyde Simpson Jr.; granddaughter, Tyra Simpson (Dayton), and Amanda Simpson (Jacksonville, NC); great-grandson, Eli Simpson and great-granddaughter, Evie Simpson (Australia); 2 sisters, Alberta Hunter and Myrtlene Stoudemire (Birmingham); a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Funeral service 11 am Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3375 W. Siebenthaler Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Family will receive friends 10 am- 11 am. Funeral service begins at 11 am. Interment Jeffersonview Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.
